PR group holds first meeting

Towson University’s PR Group held a welcome back meeting Sept. 8, in the Media Center.

About 30 Towson students attended.  Some students were returning members, while others were interested in joining.  Vice President Taylor hunt conducted the meeting under the guidance of Towson Professor Les Potter.

Towson’s PR Group is affiliated with PRSSA, Public Relations Student Society of America.  PRSSA looks at students involved in PR Groups when sending out internship opportunities.  When joining PRSSA students pay annual dues but the benefits outweigh the cost.

After giving background information on the group, Hunt moved right into fundraising and events.  The group plans to kick-off this semester with a coffee and pastry sale in Van Bokkelen.  Last year the sale was a hit and the group hopes for the same turnout this year.

“On a college campus, bake sales are one of the best ways to bring in a profit, I will definitely participate,” said TU student Julia Ngo.

The major event for the PR Group is the networking fair.  This fair is open to all students looking to secure a job when they graduate from Towson.  The students in the PR Group coordinate, run, and benefit from this event.  This year the fair will be April 15, 2010.
